Citytunneln to open 4 December 2010
The official opening of Citytunneln will take place in just a year from now, on Saturday 4 December 2010. The day will be the high point of a very diverse inauguration programme extending over more than two weeks.
The first train will run to a new timetable through Citytunneln on 12 December 2010, but before then it is the intention that the whole of Scania will have been involved in the introduction of this new rail link through and underneath Malmö.
‘Citytunneln will change the everyday lives of a lot of people,’ says Anders Mellberg, Citytunneln Information Manager, ‘so we have decided to have an inauguration programme extending over two weeks. We want as many of the people of Scania as possible to be able to involve themselves in this two-week programme.’
Opening prelude
The inauguration programme starts on 26 November with a week in which all municipalities in Skåne, plus organisations, authorities, associations, and companies are invited to come and take part. Perhaps one organisation might arrange a conference in association with the opening, or a municipality could celebrate how distances in Skåne and the Öresund region have shrunk.
Opening 4 December
The official opening of Citytunneln takes place on 4 December, and will be a festival including music and theatre in an impressive setting.
Train week
After the official inauguration, there will be a further week before trains actually start running to a timetable, but those who want to will be able to experience Citytunneln before this. Between the 5 and 10 December, it will be possible to take a train through the tunnel and catch glimpses of the new stations, Malmö C, Triangeln, and Hyllie.
On 11 December, the whole installation will be handed over, and, after midnight on 12 December, operations will commence and the first regular trains will run through the tunnel.
