[7/5/2005 3] NCC to build Hyllie station

Citytunneln has today signed an agreement with NCC Construction Sverige AB for the Station Hyllie contract (E311). The contract covers work on concrete overdecking, filling, platforms, and sewerage for a new railway station. The total value of the contract is SEK 225 million.

‘The contractor submitted a very good offer. It met the high demands we set regarding, for example, safety and the environment. Furthermore, the offer lay within the financial framework we had set’, says Citytunneln Project Manager Örjan Larsson.

The new station will be located due south of the Hyllie water tower.

‘There will be two 320 m platforms and a concrete overdeck which will consist of two bridges and a market area. Groundwork and drainage are also included in the contract’, says Patrik Magnusson, Project Leader for the Railway sub-project.

The station is important for the Malmö city area. It  is the centre of the new development planned for Hyllievång. The station has been planned in very close co-operation with Malmö City.

On-site work will start in the autumn and should be complete by the turn of 2007/2008. Some 15 managers and around 40 construction and plant workers will be involved in the work. Railway installations in and around the station are not included in the contract, nor are the glazed station canopy, escalators, lifts, and other equipment.

Contracts in the previous agreement are:

  • Malmö Central Station Lower (NCC International AB).
  • Tunnels and rock chamber (Malmö Citytunnel Group HB)
  • Hyllie-Vintrie, ground and constructional work (NCC Construction Sverige AB)

The Citytunnel project in Malmö consists of 17 km of railway connecting Malmö Central Station with the Öresund Bridge, as well as linking up the Scania railway network and increasing rail traffic capacity for the future. Six km passes underneath central Malmö, and the other 11 km is surface railway.

Malmö Central Station is being extended with an underground section.  New stations are being built at Triangeln and Hyllie.

The Citytunnel is planned to be complete in 2011. The budget for the project is SEK 9.45 billion at 2001 values.
