Skanska to lay connecting track through Lockarp
Citytunneln today signed an agreement with Skanska for contract E301 Lockarp, ground and constructional work. The contract covers the construction of a connecting line through Lockarp which will permit direct trains to and from Ystad and Trelleborg via the Citytunnel.
‘Skanska has great competence and experience of similar projects’ says Patrik Magnusson, Project Leader of the Railway sub-project within the Citytunnel project. ‘They submitted a competitive tender which also meets the requirements we set for items such as safety and the environment when work has to be carried out on a heavily-used railway’.
The contract is worth about SEK 190 million and covers ground work, a flyover junction, three bridges for connecting track to Ystad and Trelleborg, groundwater drainage, road re-laying, noise-reduction measures, and replanting work.
At Lockarp, the connection from the Öresund line will link with the Ystad line and also to the Continental line south of Trelleborg. In the village of Lockarp itself, the tracks split, with one passing under the Continental line flyover, and the other connecting to the Continental line at ground level. The connection will take the form of a single-track line ready for conversion to twin-track.
In Lockarp there will also be a pedestrian and cycle path under the Continental line as well as road bridges for Arrievägen and Larsbovägen.
Work at Lockarp is planned to start in the spring of 2007.
Citytunneln has previously signed agreements with the following contractors:
- Malmö C Lower (NCC Construction Sverige AB)
- Tunnels and rock cavern (MCG, Malmö Citytunnel Group HB)
- Hyllie-Vintrie, ground and constructional work (NCC Construction Sverige AB)
- Hyllie Station (NCC Construction Sverige AB)
- Control and monitoring of safety-related equipment, internal TV and fire alarm (El & Industrimontage Svenska AB)
The Citytunnel in Malmö consists of 17 km of railway connecting Malmö Central Station with the Öresund Bridge, as well as linking up the Scania railway network and increasing rail traffic capacity for the future. Six km passes underneath central Malmö, and the other 11 km is surface railway.
Malmö Central Station is being extended with an underground section. New stations are being built at Triangeln and Hyllie.
The first spit was dug on 8 March 2005. The Citytunnel is planned to be complete in 2011. The budget for the project is SEK 9.45 billion at 2001 values.
