[9/17/2003 ] Contractors invited to submit tenders for railway construction in the south

The purchase of the Citytunnel project's contracts is taking a step further with the contract E302, Hyllie-Vintrie, ground and constructional work.
The invitation to submit a tender is made public through an announcement in the EU bulletin Official Journal.

The contract includes the Citytunnel's approximately five-kilometre-long stretch from the tunnel portal in the south, to the connection to the Öresund link at Lernacken, as well as the approximately three-kilometre-long connecting track to Ystad and Trelleborg at Vintrie.

The contract is principally for terracing, road diversions, construction of bridges and support walls, and environmental measures such as noise protection, plantings and system for handling groundwater.

Tenders must be submitted by December 2003 and the contract should be signed in the summer of 2004. The works are estimated to take approximately two years. The building of Hyllie station is a separate contract, and is not a part of this contract.

E302 is the Citytunnel project's third contract open for tenders. Additional contracts where tenders can be submitted are E101 Malmö Central Station Lower, tunnel and ramp, and E201 Tunnels and underground cavity. Those purchases should be terminated by the beginning of 2004.

Remaining contracts will be purchased gradually during 2004-2007. For the construction of the Citytunnel, around twenty contracts of various sizes and contents are needed.

The Citytunnel project, which is made up of 17 kilometres of railway, connecting Malmö Central Station and the Oresund Bridge, brings together the railway systems in Southern Sweden and increases the capacity for railway traffic in the future. The Citytunnel project is made up of a six-kilometre-long tunnel under central Malmö and eleven kilometres of railway above ground. Malmö Central Station will be added with an underground section. New stations will be built at Triangeln and in Hyllie in south of Malmö.

When all permits are in order the construction can start in 2004. The Citytunnel project is planned to be finished in 2009. The cost of the project is estimated at 8.8 BSEK according to monetary value in 2001.
