TBM Katrin has reached Triangeln in Malmö
Around six in the evening on September 24 th the tunnel boring machine Katrin reached Triangeln. She has covered the distance of 2.7 kilometers in slightly more than 230 days.
– Katrin’s first boring stretch has gone very well. So far the tunnel drive has been carried out with great accuracy and precision, says Johan Brantmark, assistant project manager at sub-project Tunnels.
Now both boring machines of the Citytunnel project have reached Triangeln. Katrin’s breakthrough took place a good month after TBM Anna broke through. Katrin started boring on February 6th this year. This means that she has covered the 2.7 kilometres in a good 230 days, which is slightly more than a month quicker than Anna.
– This shows the importance of knowledge transference in projects this large. The experiences that Anna’s crew had in the beginning of the boring, the crew on Katrin have utilized. The Contractor MCG has done a very good job so far, says Johan Brantmark.
Now a well-needed rest awaits Katrin. She will go through practically the same maintenance as her sister machine Anna. The cutter head’s scrapers and cutting discs will be exchanged and some sheet-metal and welding works shall see to it that she is in good condition before the restart in a couple of months.
