High schools battle at NM Games basketball tournament
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Teams from all over New Mexico are taking part in high school tournaments at the New Mexico Games basketball competition.
Among the teams, there was Hope Christian, Rio Rancho and the defending state champions, Valley.
Teams like the New Mexico Coyotes had players from different schools joining forces.
The tournament gives players a chance to face competition from different parts of the state.
"There are some teams from out of town that you don’t see normally in high school during the season," said Derick Chavez from Valley High School. "There’s a lot of different players and it helps you a lot to grow as a player and see different talent along the way."
Kyle Julian from Magdalena High School agreed that it’s good to get some extra games in.
"All around the state there’s a lot of good competition so you know, it’s good for us," he said.
